Overview

The Information Technology Program helps students acquire the needed skills that will make them an asset to any organization in today’s job market. One of the main strengths of the program is the practical aspect and use of dedicated tools that allow students to develop hands-on competence and problem analysis skills.
The total credits required for graduation are 66 credits, normally achievable within two years of full-time study.
Upon completion of the degree requirements, the student will receive a Diploma – Associate of Science Degree (AS) in Information Technology.

Program Educational Objectives

Information Technology program is designed to prepare students for continuous learning and successful careers. Within a few years of graduation, our alumni are expected to:

  • Provide services or products that address business needs by utilizing their knowledge in Information Technology
  • Advance their studies in computing or enhance their professional competencies through relevant certifications
  • Contribute to their communities and act as socially responsible citizens upholding the ethical values acquired at ACM

Student Learning Outcomes

The Information Technology Program adopts the “Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology – Computing Accreditation Commission” (ABET – CAC) student outcomes. Graduates of Information Technology will have an ability to:

  • Analyze a broadly defined problem in the program’s domain and apply principles of the discipline to identify solutions.
  • Design and implement solutions to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  • Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  • Function effectively as a member of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
  • Use established approaches to apply, integrate, and administer secure computing technologies to accomplish user goals.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the ACM Information Technology Program will have hands-on experience to immediately integrate the following professions in the Information Technology sectors: Application/ Software/ Web developers, database administrators, and IT analysts.

General Education Requirement (GEE) (7 credit hours):

Students must satisfy the requirements of the General Education as per the following conditions:

  1. Courses must be drawn from the Liberal Arts Department and from the General Education areas below (refer to the Liberal Arts Department section in the ACM Course Catalogue).
  2. The General Education areas are defined as follows:
    1. English Language and Communications Skills
    2. Social and Behavioral Ways of Knowing
    3. Humanistic and Artistic Ways of Knowing
    4. Interdisciplinary Ways of Knowing
  3. Courses may also be drawn from math, science, and professional selective courses as offered by ACM and with the Director’s permission.
  4. Courses that are already required under a category other than General Education Elective cannot be considered as a GEE course.
  5. ACM has the right to advise a student on a specific course under the GEE category.
  6. ACM has the right to assign some of the credits in the “General Education Requirement (GEE)” which are to be considered as part of the degree requirements in the form of course(s) available in the course catalogue (other than existing courses in the GEE category) with the Director’s approval. For example, Professional Selective and Internship Courses may be offered at ACM's discretion as mandatory selectives to be considered as part of the degree requirements.
